The Westonbirt International Festival of Gardens 2003 - Snake in the Grass

Based on the landforms of the South Downs in Sussex, this earthwork was designed by Alison Wear and Miranda Melville to amuse and surprise with its soft green banks, living wall of pink flowering sedums and concealed shocking pink interior.

But the favourite garden for many people is sure to be the irresistible Snake in the Grass by Alison Wear and Miranda Melville.  In this adventurous design a grassy mound is cut in two by a high-walled pathway that snakes through it.  On one side the wall is made from simple wooden boards stained grey, while on the other lies a magnificent, tapestry-like, floor-to-ceiling vertical carpet of sedums, a multicoloured feast for the eyes.’  Tim Richardson – Daily Telegraph 12.7.03
